What to do if the power steering on my Vauxhall Insignia is not working properly?

I have a Vauxhall Insignia and recently I've noticed that the power steering is not working as it used to. It feels stiff and unresponsive, making it difficult to steer especially at low speeds. What could be causing this and how can I fix it?

The most common cause of power steering issues on the Vauxhall Insignia is a low level of power steering fluid. Check the fluid reservoir and make sure it's filled to the correct level. If it's low, top it up and see if that improves the steering. Keep an eye on the fluid level and if it continues to go down, it could indicate a leak in the system.

Another possible cause could be a faulty power steering pump. This component is responsible for supplying pressurized fluid to the steering system. If it's not working properly, it could result in stiff and unresponsive steering. In this case, it's best to take your car to a trusted mechanic for a proper diagnosis and repair.

If both the fluid level and the pump seem fine, it could be an issue with the power steering belt. Check the belt for any signs of wear or damage. A worn-out belt can cause slipping and affect the performance of the power steering. Replace the belt if necessary and see if that solves the problem.
