Why is the engine of my Vauxhall Astra overheating?

I've recently noticed that the engine of my Vauxhall Astra is overheating, especially when I'm stuck in traffic. What could be causing this and how can I prevent it from happening?

It could be due to a malfunctioning thermostat, which is responsible for regulating the engine's temperature. Have a mechanic check it and replace if necessary.

Old or dirty coolant can also cause overheating. Make sure to flush and replace your coolant regularly.

Check for any leaks in the cooling system, such as damaged hoses or a faulty radiator. These can also lead to overheating.
