How do I check my Vauxhall Astra's oil level?

I am a new Vauxhall Astra owner and I want to make sure I am properly maintaining my car. How do I check the oil level and what should I do if it is low?

To check your Vauxhall Astra's oil level, park on level ground and wait until the engine is cool. Open the hood and locate the dipstick, usually labeled with a bright color. Pull it out and wipe it clean with a cloth. Reinsert the dipstick and pull it out again to check the oil level. The oil level should be between the minimum and maximum markers.
